I have received an email with [Spam123.net] or [Virus123.net] in the subject line. What does this mean?
[Spam123.net] and [Virus123.net] are our new SPAM and VIRUS filters. They intercepted an email that was sent to your hosted website and was suspected of being SPAM or containing a VIRUS. One of the filters intercepted the message and forwarded it to you with the appropriate tag in the subject line.
How will I know that [Spam123.net] and [Virus123.net] are working?
Our philosophy regarding SPAM and VIRUS is that if it looks like a duck, and if it walks like a duck, it probably is a duck. That is why [Spam123.net] or [Virus123.net] will alert you every time it suspects that an email could be SPAM or infected with a VIRUS. When you receive these emails, their subjects will begin with a [Spam123.net] or a [Virus123.net] tag. This tag will serve as your warning and will help you to filter and sort these emails.
If you think that an email is SPAM or infected with a VIRUS, why send it to me? Why not just delete it right away?
Sometimes even legitimate email can appear to be SPAM or to be infected. Sending you the filtered emails gives you the opportunity to make the final decision for yourself - read it or delete it. The subject tags serve as a valuable piece of information alerting you to the type of email you could receive. Moreover, some people would still like to receive all the email that is sent to them regardless of whether or not they are SPAM or infected with a VIRUS.
How do I automatically delete or isolate the filtered email I receive?
Most newer mail programs allow you to either automatically delete suspect email or to download it directly into a separate file. The instructions below tell you how do to this for Outlook Express 6.0. The process should be similar for other mail programs.
Open Outlook Express 6.0
Click on Tools
Select Message Rules
Click on Mail
Click on New (right hand side, if applicable)
In box #1, "Select the conditions for your rule", place a check mark next to
"Where the subject line contains specific words"
In box #3, "Rule description", click on the blue "contains specific words" link
In the box that pops up, type [Spam123.net] or [Virus123.net]
Click ADD
Click OK
You have now programmed Outlook Express to look for the subject [Spam123.net] or [Virus123.net] in all incoming email.
Next is to tell Outlook what to do when you receive messages that contain [Spam123.net] or [Virus123.net] in the subject line.
If you want it deleted right away, select the "Delete it" option in box #2.
Click OK and then OK again to finish.
All messages with [Spam123.net] or [Virus123.net] in the subject will now automatically be deleted.
If you want to download suspect messages to a separate folder, select the "Move it to the specified folder" option in box #2
In box #3, "Rule description", click on the blue "specified".
A folder tree will appear
Click on Local Folders
Click on New Folder (on the right)
A folder name box will appear
Type in SPAM or VIRUS
Click OK
A new folder with the name you just typed will appear below your other folders
Click on the new folder
Click OK to finish
Outlook Express will now place all email with [Spam123.net] or [Virus123.net] in the subject into your SPAM or VIRUS folder.
Click OK and then OK again to return to your mail program's main screen.
Outlook Express will now delete or download SPAM or VIRUS infected email to a separate folder.
What is Phishing?
Phishing is the sending of authentic-looking messages designed to fool recipients into divulging personal data such as account and credit card numbers, passwords, or registration numbers. The phished information is then used to commit identity theft or to send fraudulent email.
Do [Spam123.net] and [Virus123.net] also detect phishing?
Yes, [Spam123.net] and [Virus123.net] are among the first filters in the world capable of searching for and detecting phishing attempts. [Spam123.net] and [Virus123.net] process email suspected of being a phishing attempt the same way that it processes SPAM or VIRUS infected email.
